Amanda Maize, DMD
My name is Amanda Maize, and I am honored to introduce myself to you and the practice. As you are now aware, I will be following in Dr. Jack's footsteps as he transitions to another path in his professional career. I am beyond blessed to have met Dr. Jack a few years ago and humbled to be able to continue his legacy by treating his patients moving forward.
I originally hail from southeastern Wisconsin (Go Pack!), growing up in a farming community about an hour west of Milwaukee. After high school, I made my way south to attend Purdue University. My undergraduate degree was in Neurobiology & Physiology. I also obtained my Masters degree in Biology from Purdue before attending dental school. Valuing a small, hands-on school, I practiced for a short while in North Carolina until my husband and I decided to finally move back to the Midwest. We have been living/working in the Northern Indianapolis Carmel area ever since. My husband works in corporate finance ( I will joke that I have no idea what he does!) and loves his job here in Indy. We welcomed our daughter Lilian last fall and are so proud to be her parents. She is a sweet little girl who loves to socialize, eat and absolutely detests brushing her teeth (ha, ironic!). Nick and I are proud to have made this area our home personally and professionally.
Growing up in the country in Wisconsin taught me a lot about life and people. My dad is a self-employed business owner who has an outstanding professional legacy in our area building barns for those in the immediate area and beyond. His work ethic, loyalty to his customers/friends and dedication to his family are the foothold in everything that I do. My mother is a recently retired nurse. She has worked at the V.A. for her entire career, never ceasing her commitment to her veterans. I admire her service to our country's best over the years and hope to have a profound impact on my patients in the years to come. My parents are the reason I am here and the calling I have to serve others stems from them. I share this act of service with you all as we get to know each other.
Dentistry is such a rewarding profession because my staff and I get to treat/prevent disease, relieve pain, educate on oral health, maintain smiles and improve self-esteem. The absolutely most rewarding part of my job is getting to meet new people each day. Don't get me wrong, I love working with my hands, but I find the relationships I get to be involved with professionally is the best part of my work day. As I get to know you and your families, I will cherish that bond just as Dr. Jack has over the years. Thank you for welcoming me to the practice, I am excited to meet each and every one of you!

Dear valued patient & friends,
For over forty years, I have been so pleased to serve as a dental healthcare provider in the Castleton area. The loyalty of those of you receiving this letter has been more than remarkable and I am forever grateful for your loyalty. I have also been very fortunate over the years to have been blessed with some outstanding staff members who have worked for me for years at a time. Over the years, we have treated thousands of individuals as patients and I would like to thank every one of you, past and present, who has trusted their oral health to my staff and me. With this appreciation in mind, I am pleased to announce the transition that will take place in my practice.
I fretted for years how I could plan an exit from dentistry yet leave all my beloved patients in good hands. I believe the Good Lord listened to me as Dr. Amanda Maize and I became acquainted. I was not looking for a replacement but as I became more familiar with Dr. Amanda, I soon realized how her skills and personality were exactly what I had been praying for. I probably made the exit decision a little earlier than anticipated, but I could not let this possibility pass. She was too good to be true. I highly encourage you to please continue your loyalty to this practice and give her a try. I think you will feel right at home and create a good bond quickly.
Effective December 3, 2019 Dr. Amanda will assume full responsibility as your new dentist. She is from Wisconsin and a graduate of University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. She has been working as an associate dentist for a practice in Westfield for the past few years and is now ready to venture out with her own practice. She and her husband, Nick, have been married for almost 5 years and have one beautiful daughter, Lilian.
With regards to the logistic of the changes in the practice, I will be working with Dr. Amanda in the interim and introducing her to as many of you as possible before my tenure is complete. In case you’re wondering, you’re not getting rid of me too quickly! My current staff, minus Robin, plan to continue in their present positions so the great people with whom you have the most contact will still be here for you.
As many of you know, Robin and I have been involved in helping our patients seek treatment if they have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. We will continue to do this in the office for a bit then move to the Saxony area in Fishers to work with physicians and their patients to further save lives. (Our new office number will be 317.999.9977).
On a final personal note, I must confess that I feel great sadness for the occasion of my retirement. I have treated many of you as you grew from kids to adults and then treated your children and even grandchildren. I feel that these past forty years haven’t been just about dentistry, but also about good personal relationships and I consider many of you friends. I am proud to consider many of you friends. I feel very confident that Dr. Amanda will continue the traditions of this office in a caring and professional manner.
Jack Nicewander DDS
Dr. Jack has enjoyed dentistry and the relationships he's built with his patients for over 35 years. He was born and raised in the Castleton area, so it was no surprise that he chose this area to set up practice when he graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1977. What sets him apart from his colleagues is his desire to treat every patient as he would his own family or cherished friend. With warmth, sincerity, honesty and integrity, he has built a legacy that will be remembered long after he retires from dentistry.
A doctor's education should never stop, so Dr. Jack makes it a point to keep up-to-date through countless continuing educations courses and every-day experience. He takes great pride in being able to offer patients choices that include technology of the highest quality in an environment that is fun, friendly and inviting. He sounds too good to be true, but once you meet him, you'll understand why his patients and staff have been loyal to him for so many years.
Behind every good man is a great woman, and Dr. Jack's wife, Carol, is no exception. Together, they have raised two beautiful daughters, Kari and Julie. Kari lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Scott Kuper, who recently opened his own chiropractic practice, Premier Performance Chiropractic, in the Keystone area. Kari and Scott are the parents to two little girls, Allie Jane and Claire Ann. Julie resides in Chicago and recently earned her Masters Degree in Public Service Management from DePaul University.
Dr. Jack is a regular at Lifetime Fitness and I.U. football games. He enjoys cycling and dabbling in golf. He and Carol spend a lot of time relaxing on their deck at home or at their lake cabin in Brown County. They also enjoy traveling with family and friends.
